From the sounds of this, it seems like these ended up being reoccurring issues with this model. I thought GE was suppose to be a reliable brand, guess not.

I™™ve had this washer for four years. In that time I™™ve tried a multitude of different detergents and washer settings: automatic detergent dispensing, manual, cold water, hot water, warm water, extra soil level, low soil level, you name it. Not once have my clothes ever come out smelling clean. At best they smell like nothing, and at worst they just smell a little bit like stale body odor. This is across all fabric types and is not related to the funk that ™active wear™ can get. Mostly I™™ve felt like I™™ve been walking strong wearing dirty clothes for years. Certainly not worth the premium price as it barely performs its main function.

The first year we had this machine I loved the capacity, the odor guard and the tank to hold laundry soap. We have had to replace the control panel 3 times. One repair person said it™™s a known issue, one said cheaper to buy and new one and buy the extended warranty. Not only is the repair cost high but the inconvenience of not having a washer for 2+ weeks while they order parts is difficult. Unfortunately this washer is considered top of the line for GE. Replacing it with another brand means a set that doesn™™t match.

Fabric softener compartment not working

I purchased this front loader and dryer in April 2021. I was quite happy with it. In June 2025 I noticed that the fabric softener compartment was filling with water and the softener wasn™™t being dispensed so I looked online for solution. I cleaned it thoroughly but the issue was still there. I finally reached out to GE and they sent a technician to fix it, imagine my surprise when he told me that the replacement compartment would cost a minimum of $750. Why would I spend $750 to fix a washer that I bought for ~$950? I was disappointed by GE customer service, all my appliances are from GE (stove, fridge, dryer, upright freezer) and to be told that if I couldn™™t afford the cost of repair I should just stop using it!!!! This is making me regret buying GE appliances™¦ next time I™™ll go with whirlpool or LG.

This is the worst washer/dryer set I have ever owned. Within 1 year and 20 days the control board on the dryer went out. Then within 20 months the washer control board went out. The set I had previously lasted for 12 years with zero issues. This set has been NOTHING but problems from the beginning. Odor control is a CROCK. It doesn't get the clothes clean. And I have spent more in repairs that aren't covered by the limited warranty than I did on the whole set.

We purchased this washer in fall 2023, it worked great for 2 years and then failed. The door lock failed, locking a load of laundry in the washer. No instructions available to manually releasing the door. We contacted our extended warranty, which took over a week to get a service technician out (because of an error in entering information by the sales/ warranty). The repair tech said that it was a failure of the door mechcanism and control panel, the parts would be ordered and should be in in 3-5 days. 7 days later we called since we had not heard. Told that the service had to wait for the approval of the repair from the warranty (Centricity). I called Centricity and was told in a meeting they decided they would not approve the repair but send us a check. So not having washer for 4 weeks and being told they would not repair our 2 year 3 mo old washer despite 5 yr exteneded warranty purchased, and didn't even bother to contact us. The big issues we have are with the service of the warranty, BUT a GE Profile washer that lasts ONLY 2 years (with use by 2 person family) is beyond disappointing. Our last washer lasted 20 years. GE - that is what you should aspire to, not a WIFI connected washer. Greatly dissappointed.

Have had this washer for 2 years. right after about a year the washer will not spin on max - only on high. thought first it was the pump but the pump was fine and it didn't change anything after i replaced it. Just today it would not unlock. Was able to unplug the cable and thankfully unload the laundry. Now it will not start a new program. It will sound like it's trying to start. door will not lock and no water is being pumped in. Complains after a minute or so that the door is not closed. I have been very displeased with the performance of this machine

Everything™™s expensive nowadays, at least I™™ll have it for several years and there™™s a big sticker on the front that says ™10 Year Warranty™ so that made me feel better about it. Less than two years after Install the washer quits working. I call and get a repairman out. Great, I™™m thinking, this™™ll be a repair under that 10 year warranty. No, it will not. The warranty is motor only. The repair will cost me $380 less than two years after the almost $2000 purchase. Of course, they don™™t tell you this over the phone, they wait until the repairman gets there then drop it on you. Jack Welch™™s legacy truly is still alive at GE. The FTC really should be doing something about this injustice against consumers.

ULTRA FRESH DISIGN ABSOLUTE FAILURE

I purchased the GE 5.0 smart front load ultra fresh washer dryer in 2023. Prior to this purchase I had the front load maytag Neptune washer dryer. I absolutely LOVED our maytag Neptune. They were absolute workhorses. Our repair person purchased then in a minute and said they are sought after. They were older without additional electronic touchpads. I held onto until the last repair hit the fiscal threshold. I spent a lot of time researching and deciding between this new Ultra Fresh design vs. New Maytag pair front loader. I chose the GE 5.0 Ultra fresh washer dryer set because of capacity and the new ultra fresh design to address mold. After two years of daily use I am taking some time to provide my review. What is our normal use? We have a big family. As a military family we have additional travel and guests year round. We have pets as well. What is our daily use?. We utilize the sanitation for all of our pillows comforters and any other upholstery items weekly. We wash the washable rugs and all other washable lage items. Both the washer and dryer fit almost all items that we need to wash. The washer does a good job getting everything clean. The washer and dryer gentle settings do a great job. The washer dryer steam and sanitize settings also do a great job. Here are some issues. The dryer will always say "check vent". I clean the vent after each load and have completely cleared all venting ducts. Yet, I am annoyed by the "check vent light" The dryer settings sensors are not as accurate as they should be. However, this is impacted by multiple variables. So, every person will figure out what settings works best for specific loads. The HUGE FAILURE is thevULTRA FRESH design. Do NOT BUY this model until it is fixed. It took me a bit to figure out the failure. The rubber seal around my inner washer has discolored. I have to physically clean this rubber seal after every wash because dirt will stay on tge seal or get caught between the seal. Then several months ago after a day of gardening I washed a load of dirty gardening clothes. When the load was complete it stilled smelled of fresh dirt. So I rewashed the load. When the load was completed the clothes were clean but tge smell remained. I physically cleaned tge liner, tge drum and ran tge self clean. Yet, the smell continued. It took multiple self clean loads for the smell to decrease. This was not a smell of mold but of fresh dirt.our clothes were clean and I was able to keep all of the laundry smelling fresh. However, my washer itself continued to smell like it was dirty, sitting water and began to smell moldy. After months of cleaning it and the rubber seal I figured out the absolute FAILURE Design flaw of tge Ultra Fresh system. There is sliver opening btween the large area of the seal and the drum. This sliver thin line gap is cover with the seal and and is a line of small linear vent openings. Well that has soap, dirt, and moisture build up that a customer cannot see or access to clean. For all that is holy on earth can someone is design engineering have your target customers come and tell you all the design flaws that prohibiting your customers from cleaning their products properly. It is obvious that the engineers who designed this Ultra Fresh DO NOT CLEAN there household items. This REQUIRES A RECALL and a fix for the design. I have to replace the rubber seal but it is IMPOSSIBLE to clean the area that is actually designed to TRAP dirt and detergent with moisture to create mold. I absolutely LOVE GE products. I can give the SAME criticism regarding my GE profile gas stoves. Everyday I am annoyed by the lack of thought of design that creates barriers in maintaining the cleanliness of my stove. Please have your customers that actually use your appliances to give you feedback on product and maintaining the cleanliness of the products before you go to market. I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to share a very serious design flaw.

This machine was installed in Nov of 2024 and has had issues. The pump, inverter and Control panel have failed. The repairman was here about 7 months ago because the machine was not starting. This time, the control panel lights up and then it defaults to going blank. The parts are not available so now we have to wait another week for parts to arrive. Meanwhile laundry costs at the local laundromat are $5.00 a load..that's not counting drying..since we do that at home. I cannot tell you how disappointed we are with this American made product. We wanted to support American made...but I'm, sorry, the quality control of this product is not good.

This is the worst purchase you can make. The door locking mechanism stopped working after about two years. We had a technician out to check it and he said it™™s actually the circuit boards needing. He gets about 4 calls a week about these GE washers and it™™s always at around this time frame. Do not waste your money. It won™™t last long term and you are usually out of warranty after a year. The cost of a replacement board and labor is about the same price as a brand new washer.

Horrible machine, lasted 15 months. Several techs worked on it and replaced Inverter board 2 times and main board 1 time....still broken. Thought the pump was broken but after bench testing the water evacuation pump is just fine. There is no feature to cancel any of the cycles, for example one of the techs got the machine to start a cycle but instead of completing it it kept on restarting the same cycle and filling more water in the tub.

I have had to repair the door lock, the control panel twice, drain pump and now the drive motor is not working making it so the cycle stops after 4 minutes. The warranty department doesn't understand the customers problem. They offered me a $75 debit card to use for laundry service while they order the parts to replace. The nearest date they could offer me is 6 weeks away from the date of which I called. I have case numbers, spoken to numerous people (even their escalation department) which offered to take care of the control panel, because it wasn't under warranty. Do not buy. Same problems as everyone else on this board. Less than 2 years old, control board failed, invertor board failed, will not drain and ends cycle before done. Paid $1,000 and repairs will be $742. It seems to me that all the control boards and electronics are scheduled to go after warranty is up. GE repair just said, "just the way it is". I loved hearing that after getting the estimate. No wonder they have it on sale for $500 on the website. GE needs to admit the product is faulty and offer free repairs on these issues on the review board.

Great capacity and very functional machine... until it's NOT! We've been using this machine for several years, and recently it quit working because it thinks the door is open (even when the door is closed.) Troubleshooting guide said to replace the latch/door switch assembly, which I did [cha-ching $65]. Still same problem. Next, replace the main control board [cha-ching $220]. It's been more than a week and the part still hasn't shipped and GE can't tell me when the part will ship. May be a good machine, but GE has terrible communication and customer service!

Updated review. My ge 850 series front loader was only 2yrs old, not 5. $750 was the estimate for repair. This washer was about $1400 new, it should last more than 2yrs. So tired of how disposable everything has become.

Computer Control Board Failed after only 3-1/2 years !! I loved everything about the machine, but now I don™™t trust it. Machine™™s front panel was just flashing little lights - We did the electronic reset and it didn™™t work. The replacement board repair cost over $500 (diagnose visit; then install visit). Machine was $1200 new! So now I have washer-fear PTSD from the experience - just waiting for it to fail every time I turn it on to set a cycle. Very disappointing because I thought GE was a reliable brand.

Stay away from this machine. It™™s not even two years old and the control board gave up. So you pay nearly a grand for new machine just to have to drop $400 every two years for a new control board. Garbage and the last GE product I ever buy.

Constant leaks

I have had this machine for 4 years. After the first year I have had leaks repaired 2 to 3 times a year which is very disappointing. The leaks are not the hoses but rather from a valve where the hoses connect, the pump, and even the automatic soap dispenser. I love the size, the features, and much about the machine but when I go into my laundry room and see a puddle of water it is disheartening. GE sent me parts free of charge once which was great but it just goes on and on and onto the next thing.

Our washer, like many, has stopped working after 2 years. We paid the $120 for GE to come tell us the control board is dead and it will cost $600 to repair. I looked up the part and see everyone is having the same issue. At this point, I would rather spend my money somewhere else. DO NOT BUY FROM GE

In less than 2 years, this washer stopped working. The washer stops mid cycle, doesn't rinse properly and leaves a pool of water at the end. Bought it for close to a 1000$ and going to cost us 500$ to fix it!! I see that a new one is now priced at 500$!! So disappointed!

When the drain pump fails less than 3 years old it takes the control board with it. You have to replace both or you will immediately fail the one you did not replace. Seems like a recall should have been made because I saw many people in a forum have the exact same issues.

This washing machine is almost as terrible as GE customer relations! Just outside the 12 month warranty this panel started showing a DOOR error and would not lock the door to start the cycle. The root cause was a faulty control board that fried the door lock. I bought a replacement control board and door lock out-of-pocket, and the machine worked for just under 3 months. Now the cycle will start but after 5-10 minutes the machine stops without showing any warning or error and does not complete the wash cycle. I created a case with GE Consumer Relations to request a complimentary technician visit to diagnose and quote a fix cost. They refused and said I could either pay for service out of pocket or get a discount on a comparable model. Needless to say, I will never own another GE appliance of any kind!
